for our texas guests

Pagosa Springs from Austin:
Texas's favorite mountain escape.

Every summer, Texans trade triple-digit heat for cool mornings on the San Juan River. Load the truck, bring the dog, and drive until the mesas turn into mountains — no airports required.

why texans keep coming back

One honest day's drive. A different world.

Leave Austin early and you're breathing 7,000-foot pine air by evening — or break the trip in Santa Fe and arrive fresh, with hot springs by lunch. From Dallas–Fort Worth or Houston it's the same idea: one driving day, everything you need in the truck bed.

The Heat Break

While Texas bakes past 100°, Pagosa's summer afternoons top out in the low 80s — and the evenings ask for a light jacket. Porch coffee comes with elk sightings, not humidity.

The World's Deepest Hot Springs

The Mother Spring feeds pools along the San Juan River right in town — the after-hike soak that made Pagosa famous, minutes from your rental.

Wolf Creek in Winter

The most snow in Colorado, about 25 minutes from town — without I-70 traffic or Front Range lift lines. Texans who ski Wolf Creek don't go back to the megaresorts.

A True Drive-To Vacation

Kid-friendly, pet-friendly, gear-friendly. Full kitchens, laundry, and room to spread out — because you drove here, and you brought everything.

Your Pagosa basecamp is ready.

Simply Home manages 30+ vacation rentals across Pagosa Springs — riverfront condos, cabins in the pines, and lodge-style homes near Wolf Creek. Locally managed by our Pagosa team, bookable direct.

Texans' common questions

How far is Pagosa Springs from Austin?
Roughly 850 miles — one long day of driving, or a relaxed two-day trip with an overnight in Santa Fe. Leave early, break it once, and you're soaking in the hot springs by the next lunch.
Can you drive from Dallas or Houston?
Absolutely — from Dallas–Fort Worth plan on roughly 750 miles; from Houston just under 1,000. One honest driving day, or an easy overnight split. No flights, no baggage fees, no rental car.
Do I need a 4x4?
Summer through fall, any car makes the trip. For Wolf Creek ski weeks, winter tires or AWD are smart — US-160 over the pass is plowed and heavily traveled all season.
When should Texans visit?
June–August for the heat escape, late September for gold aspens, December–March for Wolf Creek's snow — the most in Colorado. Spring is the quiet season, and the best rates.
Can I bring my dog?
Many of our homes are pet-friendly — one more reason to drive instead of fly. Filter for pet-friendly rentals and bring the whole family.
